Creating a "dialogue" with non-toxic glue and latex paints has been primary for me. This process has been a journey evolving organically since 1996. I utilize glue as a vehicle that holds the color, letting in light through each layer, like an encaustic ethereal dream frozen in time.
A silhouetted figure behind layers of transparent colors evokes a sense of mist after a hard rain. The ghost-like figure or figures are within a garden setting surrounded by birds and insects. This is from my series of paintings titled "Garden Friends." The works might appear sentimental as a first impression.
However, to me they conjure up childhood memories and dreams. Hopefully, for a few moments, the viewer will focus on nature's beauty and life's fragility.
Summer of 2009 I began reintroducing mixed media wood construction paintings from my earlier artistic career in southern Florida. I describe this series as abstract paintings with various influences ranging from nature to the raw expressionism of folk art and my intrigue for creating functional artistic furniture.
